Este estándar especifica los requisitos aplicables al nivel de la Unidad de Manejo (UM) que permiten a personas físicas o entidades demostrar que los productos suministrados por esa UM provienen de un manejo forestal controlado (MFC). El manejo forestal controlado respeta y respalda la legalidad, así como los derechos consuetudinarios y humanos, incluyendo la Declaración de la OIT relativa a los principios y derechos fundamentales en el trabajo. Asimismo mantiene o aumenta los valores sociales, culturales, ambientales y los Altos Valores de Conservación (AVC) de los bosques e impide la deforestación y la degradación – y se mantiene libre de organismos genéticamente modificados (OGM).
