Certificación de Cadena de Custodia

FSC chain of custody certification verifies that FSC certified material has been identified and separated from ineligible and unacceptable material as it moves through the supply chain from forest to market.

The material used in the FSC chain of custody can come from a variety of sources. Although the vast majority comes from FSC-certified forests, FSC chain of custody requirements also allow for the introduction of reclaimed material that would otherwise go to waste, as well as material that has been assessed as having low risk of coming from unacceptable sources.

Requisitos Laborales Fundamentales del FSC

FSC chain of custody certificate holders are required to implement FSC core labor requirements in their operations and must be able to demonstrate this to external third party auditors.

To comply with the FSC core labor requirements, the organization is required to:

  • Do not use child labor.
  • Eliminate all forms of forced and compulsory labor.
  • Make sure there is no discrimination in employment and occupation.
  • Respect freedom of association and the effective right to collective bargaining.

To access more resources on FSC's core labor requirements, we ask you to view the downloads and webinars at the bottom of the page.

Core Job Requirements Self-Assessment Templates

Part of complying with the FSC core labor requirements is that organizations are asked to assess how well they already meet the requirements through a self-assessment. To help organizations implement FSC's core labor requirements, FSC developed country-specific self-assessment templates, which provide more detail than the generic self-assessment form included in the chain of custody standard.

This list will be updated as new versions of the self-assessments are created and new countries are added; so don't forget to check the list frequently. Click on a country to download its template or to go to the corresponding website

Fundamental Labor Requirements Equivalency Assessment

With the publication of its core labor requirements, FSC committed to reviewing the compatibility of other initiatives (such as voluntary sustainability standards -VSS-, national and regional regulatory mechanisms, corporate practices, policies internal purchasing and sustainability systems) with the FSC core labor requirements, to determine potential synergies.

FSC project certification offers  third-party verification of projects made of or containing forest-based materials from responsible sources. There is a range of options to certify organizations of any size managing projects, from small to large. It also covers a diversity of project types from a single wooden boat, to office buildings and event infrastructure (concert stages, seats).

Madera Controlada

Controlled wood is non-certified material that can be mixed with FSC-certified material in products that carry the FSC MIX label. Controlled wood does not come from FSC-certified forests, but rather from areas covered by the FSC system to avoid the use of wood from five unacceptable sources:

  1. Illegally harvested wood;
  2. Wood used in violation of traditional and human rights;
  3. Wood from forests where high conservation values are threatened by management activities;
  4. Wood from forests being converted to plantations or other uses; and
  5. Wood from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.

FSC risk assessments

To reduce the likelihood of obtaining material from unacceptable sources, organizations that use controlled wood must also use risk assessments.

FSC has developed risk assessments for 60 countries. These can be found on the FSC Document Center , and summaries are on the FSC Risk Assessment Platform .

Organizations that source material from areas without an FSC risk assessment should develop their own risk assessments.
