FSC has updated the generic derogation DER-STD-60-004_02: Exemption to carry out limited industrial activity within IFL core areas (alternative to exemption regulated by IGI 9.2.7).
Key contents of derogation and update:
This generic derogation allows existing certificate holders in countries with registered pilot projects and located in pilot landscapes to conduct forest management activities in a very limited portion of IFL core areas. This exemption is conditional upon conditions that include:
- Landscape dialogue outcomes confirming high protection levels of IFL at the landscape level.
- Strong stakeholder support for lower IFL core area thresholds in alignment with this exemption.
What’s new in the update:
The updated version includes a revision to Annex 1 that adds Northern Congo as a landscape with confirmed conditions. Certificate holders located in this landscape may apply this derogation, provided they meet all other applicable requirements.
