How System Integrity Works
In partnership with third-party assurance providers, FSC safeguards system integrity by detecting and addressing potentially fraudulent activities in the FSC system. This work spans the entire certification lifecycle—from screening new applicants to monitoring supply chains and acting against fraud, illegal logging, rights violations, and other unacceptable practices.
This approach improves our capacity to screen organizations entering the system and respond effectively to cases where harm is identified. As the system grows, we continue to strengthen these safeguards by applying innovative tools, such as technologies for traceability and wood identification, to maintain the credibility of the FSC label worldwide.
At the same time, it is important to note that FSC does not act as a regulator or a law enforcement agency. Our actions are bound by defined mandates, available evidence, and due process, and we rely on cooperation from certificate holders, assurance providers, and affected parties. While we work continuously to strengthen safeguards and responses, FSC cannot promise zero risk, immediate outcomes in response to emerging risks, or solutions beyond the scope of its certification system.
