Process background

The purpose of the pilot is to test the feasibility of verified procurement claims, based on a streamlined FSC Chain of Custody standard. Participating organizations will be able to make procurements claims for purchasing FSC raw materials, and semi-finished products. Participating organizations will need to conform with the procurement claims procedure and be verified by an FSC-accredited certification body in order to make procurement claims.

Process objective

The project will monitor the feasibility of enabling the verified procurement claims within the chain of custody system. Monitoring will be based on the reflection on the procedure’s implementation from pilot testing partners and market needs recorded during the monitoring and evaluation process. The monitoring would look specifically at the impact on the FSC system, in particular on the following points below:

  • The impact of increased procurement of FSC materials and FSC products
  • How procurement claims are made and verified
  • The links between  the use of FSC-certified materials and the organizations’ environmental, economic, and social benefits.
