The following requirements aim to ensure that the certification body decision making entity has sufficient information on which to base its decisions with respect to conformity with FSC forest stewardship standards, and to help FSC ensure that there is consistency in decision making between different certification bodies.
This standard shall be used by all FSC-accredited certification bodies and FSC-accredited National Initiatives for the purpose of defining small and low intensity managed forests (SLIMFs) eligible for application of streamlined certification procedures.
The FSC Board of Directors approved the following as FSC policy in relation to the scope of application of FSC-STD-01-001 FSC Principles and Criteria for Forest Stewardship.
Since the FSC Principles and Criteria were adopted in 1995, FSC members have pointed out the weakness of the definition of GMOs. Certification bodies have pointed out the difficulties in ensuring a uniform interpretation of this definition in practice. Forestry enterprises have informed FSC that uncertainties about this policy are one reason why they do not seek certification. This paper is an attempt at clarification.
The FSC Pesticides Policy lays out FSC's position for managing the use of chemical pesticides in FSC-certified management units in consistency with Criterion 10.7 of FSC-STD-01-001 V5-2 FSC Principles and Criteria, which requires, inter alia, the use of integrated pest management.
The objective of this Policy is to describe the basic principles for calculating and administering the Annual Administration Fee (AAF) for FSC-accredited certification bodies.
This policy is designed to encourage collaboration between FSC, accredited certification bodies and others in the development and testing of FSC standards. The objective is to enable FSC to work more closely with companies to test new FSC proposals draft standards before they are finalised.
The benefit to FSC is to gain better understanding of the practical impacts of draft standards at an early stage of development, so as to ensure that they are fine-tuned prior to seeking formal endorsement. The benefit to companies is that they can gain early experience in the implementation of new systems and early access to use of the FSC trademarks for innovative products. Companies are able to assist FSC to better adapt standards to their respective systems and needs."
