This document describes the process that FSC adopts to ensure a timely, independent and effective resolution of Policy for Association complaints. These are complaints against organizations associated with FSC about their compliance with FSC-POL-01-004, the Policy for the Association of Organizations with FSC.
The objective of this document is to provide the procedures to be followed by the NOs for the definition of national eligibility criteria for Group COC certification.
The objective of this Procedure is to provide a clear and unambiguous methodology to develop, review, and revise all normative documents in the FSC Normative Framework in order to promote stability and predictability within the FSC system.
The objective of this document is to provide a transparent procedure for receiving, evaluating and deciding on appeals against decisions taken by FSC (this does not include accreditation decisions). This document details the procedure to be followed by FSC and the Appellant in the event of an appeal lodged against FSC. Appeals according to this procedure can only be submitted by entities that were subject to the adverse decision.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Forest Stewardship Standards already require forest managers to maintain/conserve or enhance/restore ecosystem services and environmental values. They also require the managers of FSC-certified forests to identify, produce, or enable the production of diversified benefits and/ or products based on the range of resources and ecosystem services existing in the management unit. The procedure offers a framework for verifying impacts and approving FSC ecosystem services claims that can be used by forest managers to access ecosystem services markets and/or other benefits. It set out the requirements for FSC-certified forest managers to credibly demonstrate the impact of their activities on the maintenance, conservation, restoration or enhancement of ecosystem services.
The Continuous Improvement Procedure offers a flexible way for The Organization managing small or low intensity managed forest (SLIMF) or community forests, within or outside a group, to access FSC forest management certification, by conforming to the applicable FSC standard progressively throughout the first certification cycle comprised of five (5) years or, in case of group members, the first 5 years of the group membership.
The objective of this document is to specify the requirements for FSC-accredited certification bodies for developing Interim National Standard (INS) or Interim Regional Standard (IRS), depending on the geographic scope of the standard, for the certification of responsible forest management and the responsible management of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) at the Management Unit (MU) level. These standards shall be based on the International Generic Indicators (IGI) and shall address the regional, national or sub-national conditions in which they are to be used and shall consider input from local stakeholders. The FSC Board of Directors at FSC International, acting through the Policy Steering Group (PSG) shall approve Interim National Standards (INS) before they can be used for FSC certification purposes. In March 2020 the revised procedure was published to reflect the FSC Board of Directors’ decision during their 82nd meeting to delegate the approval of INS to the Policy Steering Group.
The objective of this Procedure is to provide the process steps for conducting and incorporating a risk-based approach in Forest Stewardship Standards (FSS), to assess, identify and designate risk considering the likelihood and impact of nonconformity with indicators of the FSS.
The objective of this procedure is to establish the general principles regarding the participation of external observers in on-site FSC certification audits (hereinafter ‘audits') and/ or in ASI accreditation assessments (hereinafter ‘assessments'). This is essential for ensuring transparency and learning opportunities while at the same time addressing issues around confidential information, avoiding situations where there may be cases of losses or damages, and other situations that may arise during the audit/assessment.
The procedure is to provide guidance to consultants hired by FSC and who need to undertake travel to fulfil their duties. It lays out the process of travel booking and the limits of what will be reimbursed. The procedure encourages environmental accountability, cost effectiveness and fiscal responsibility, and that health, safety, and security concerns are met.
This standard specifies the requirements for group entities (the certificate holder) managing a group of forest management units under a single certificate, a process referred to as ‘group certification'.
